DD2 - 5 month update

 > Age of your EC-child...
5 months

> We started at...
Birth

> Generally speaking we are doing...
Great.  She communicates her needs very well, and we try to respond as well as possible.

> How do you know your baby has to go? Baby's signals? Timing?
> Intuition? Is there a difference for poos and pees?
Typical signs:  popping on/off breast, sudden outbursts, kicking legs, and not settling.  The other night her sister, Jane – 24 mo, woke up and came wandering out of their room.  I was perplexed as she didn’t want to potty, but seemed distressed.  I finally figured out that she came to get me because Helen needed to potty.  I found Helen stirring and waiting for me to take her potty.  How cool is that?  When Jane had fever last month, we changed sleeping arrangements.  We now have much more success at night.  Of course, she may just be holding it better until morning, and now morning is harder to catch sometimes.  Nighttime cues are typically kicking when trying to nurse after waking.

> Which positions/receptacles do you use?
We mainly use the BBLP, usually on the bathroom counter.  We also use a variety of standing at sink, in-arms over toilet, potty bowl, toilet w/insert and in-arms outside.  The “pee mat” still has residence in our bathroom.  If baby has to pee, laying on her belly while cued or mama peeing still guarantees a “catch”.  I have not yet incorporated a pee mat into out & about routines.

> Do you use diapers or training pants?
> On what occasions, what kind of diapers?
We use a mix of Bright Bots (sizes S, M, L), SIMPLYcover (sizes M, L) & insert, Snap Pants (sizes S, M or L), KISSes (sizes M, L), B’undies (sizes M, L), Poquitos (size L) with Prefolds/Prefold Belt for nighttime – all depending on desired protection and laundry status.  Missing poos in undies hasn’t been bad yet, but a big miss like this morning’s may make me change my mind.  But I knew that one was coming . . . I was just too busy getting ready for my BIG morning!

> How are you doing away from home?
Great.  I do try to protect the carseat because we tend to have misses there.  Easy to change undies when I get where I am going for short trips, and for longer trips I usually use SIMPLYcover and SIMPLYinsert.  But if I am wearing her as usual while out, then we do really great.

> What are you doing at night?
Prefolds with Prefold Belt are awesome!  Contrary to last month, we are having lots of nighttime catches.  This is due in part to different sleeping arrangements.  I still think that nighttime EC is easier when baby doesn’t pee at night.  ROFL

> Who takes baby to the potty?
Me, DH and our teenage babysitter

> Accidents - how many do you have and
> what times are especially accident-prone?
Mornings are accident prone.  I don’t care enough about my hit rate to track it.  I just gage our success on the lack of laundry to do.

> Other new insights:
I love undies; Bright Bots and KISSes are our favorites.  Snap Pants on hand are also really nice, especially for baby laying down activities.  I dream of nice, organic cotton undies that fit her really well.

> What do you like most about ec’ing at the moment?
I love improving my communication skills by telling people about my diaper free baby.

> Do you ever wish you'd have never heard about it?
No, I thoroughly enjoy the liberating and educational journey this has been.
