DD1 - 28 month update

> Age of your EC-child...
28 months

> We started at...
3.5 months

> Generally speaking we are doing...
Good.  While I have called her a 23 month grad, we still have more than our fair share of misses.  I decided to start the new year by keeping a log of our toilet laundry.  She has had 11 misses so far.  That hardly qualifies her as a “grad”.  I have come to accept that it is just that way.

> How do you know your baby has to go? Baby's signals? Timing? Intuition? Is there a difference for poos and pees?
She says, “Need go potty” or some similar version.  Currently she insists that we “help” her most of the time.  It is strange, but she is busy working on so many other things right now.  She seems to be working really hard on verbal skills, and my latest question for her “moments” is, “What word are you working on?”  She has had several misses during the times when we don’t help her right away.  Thankfully, all of her poops have been in the toilet/potty (famous last words, I am sure ;-)).  Actually, when she had diarrhea right before Christmas, she had at least 2 (maybe up to 4?) misses with that.  We just helped her get through that.  Funnily enough, with the same symptoms last August (23 mo), she was perfect about getting it all in the potty.

> Which positions/receptacles do you use?
She uses an insert on the toilet, BBLP or BB potty chair.  We no longer carry our toilet insert while out, so she sits on the toilet when out and about.

> Do you use diapers or training pants? On what occasions, what kind of diapers?
We use size 2/3 underwear mainly.  She fits better every day into size XS panties (typically a size 3/4).  I got her some really cute boxers that I am giving her for Valentines day – I hope she likes them – I love them (they have a matching cami shirt).

> How are you doing away from home?
Great; no accidents have happened in the last month while out and about.

> What are you doing at night?
We had one accident at night in the past month.  It shocked me.  I knew when it was happening, and she was probably ill (I can’t really remember what I attributed it to at the time).  The Snugglewool mattress pad made for quick, easy cleanup though.

> Who takes baby (toddler) to the potty?
Herself, me, DH, nanny and babysitter

> Accidents - how many do you have?  What times are especially accident-prone?
We are averaging 0.8 misses per day since I started keeping records for the new year!  I think it is highly unusual, but maybe I just ignored it before.  I don’t know.  This record keeping sucks!  LOL

> Other new insights:
I have been shocked at what our record keeping exhibits.  I *know* that Jane wasn’t been peeing her pants this much from months 23-27.  But I recognize that EC’ing is very dynamic.  It does make me sad that I am not surrounded by people IRL that have experience with this.  I am forever grateful for all of the posting that Dianna does, especially all of her past posts about Maylie’s progress.  Jane seems to do things in a similar fashion, albeit months later.  I just wonder if “accidents” happened at this age where infant pottying is the cultural norm.  I wonder if my toddler is in any way affected by the peers that she sees wearing diapers.  I wish I understood better.

> What do you like most about ec’ing at the moment?
I love that we have established such great communication skills regarding elimination.

> Do you ever wish you'd have never heard about it?
No.
