DS1 - 1 week update

Our son is now 1 week old, and we are really enjoying ourselves. We are still using cloth stuff wrapped in place by wool receiving blankets. Yesterday I realized that having a quality diaper service would be really, really nice. I was thinking it would be a nice supplement to what we are doing. We can go through prefolds very quickly, and having help with those laundry loads would be wonderful right now.

I have been pulling out miscellaneous other cloths to try using, as I am having trouble keeping up with laundry to make our 3 dozen infant prefolds sufficient. In addition to the prefolds, we use a fair number of tri-fold inserts and SimplyInserts (picked up long ago from The EC Store and they are awesome!). We are keeping one cloth (typically infant prefold) under the bum and a second cloth covering the front (typically trifold or simplyinsert). I am also trying a thin cloth under the bum (8x8 bamboo/cotton, single layer) to help minimize laundry for the poo misses . . . or am I making more laundry because I have more pee misses . . . I don't know.

We do use the potty bowl, even with our boy. When using the potty bowl, I suspend his bum into the bowl using the potty cozy (fleece cover for the edge of the potty bowl - makes the opening smaller and softer). I then place a cloth between his legs in case I need to *catch* a pee. I tend to offer the potty this way when I suspect a poo may be coming.

I offer the potty a few times a day at the sink, and we have caught a few pees at those times. He is still sleeping a lot, and he seems to really enjoy life in the carrier. His two big sisters are enjoying him too, but they wish that he would wake up and play some more. We are having a wonderful time!
